Readers Digest
This mechanized world
has made us
cold
unfeeling things,
like bodies buried deep
in damp sand.
All of us working
slowly on
our own bits of internal debris,
clutter stuck
inside of us,
shards we can't
process.

Our jobs, then,
are to find ways
to reach out
in the dark
and reconnect,
to discover
means of making pearls
from the grit
within
our chests.
